Here are three reasons to buy the new OnePlus 3T, and two reasons to not:
1. The OnePlus 3T now joins the elite Snapdragon 821-powered league ofsmartphones .
One of the most significant upgrades in the OnePlus 3T is the processor powering the phone. While theOnePlus 3 runs an equally capable Snapdragon 820 processor, the OnePlus 3T runs on the Snapdragon 821 processors that powers devices like the excellent Google Pixel and the Xiaomi Mi Mix and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. This also makes OnePlus 3T one of the first phones to be powered by Qualcomm's newest flagship processor, especially when the price of the OnePlus 3T considered to be much lower than the other phones running the same processor. The Snapdragon 821 processor is 10 per cent faster than the Snapdragon 820, and coupled with the ginormous 6GB RAM, this alone is one of the reasons to get the OnePlus 3T. Talk about sheer firepower!
2. The OnePlus 3T will make your portraits look prettier
If your (now)old OnePlus 3 failed to take those breathtaking selfies, the OnePlus 3T is more than capable to make you look pretty on the impromptu portraits shots you tend to take. Apart from being snappier because of the all the firepower inside, the front camera is now a 16-megapixel shooter with Samsung 3P8SP with big 1 micron pixels and f/2.0 aperture. This will allow the front camera to absorb more light even at higher shutter speeds reducing blur and noise. The rear camera, although it maintains the same 16-megapixel Sony IMX 298 sensor with optical image stabilisation and laser auto-focus, can now harness the next generation electronic image stabilisation which leverages the gyroscope and a bunch of other sensors giving stabilised videos. The rear camera is also housed inside a sapphire glass encasement which will prevent scratches and dust to gather on the camera, giving a consistent camera performance for a longer time.
3. More life!
The OnePlus 3 was a great phone and everything yet the measly 3,000mAh battery powering a powerful flagship processor, a massive amount of RAM and an AMOLED screen made the battery life of theflagship killer a major pain in the ass. All that has been taken care of in the OnePlus 3T because the Chinese upstart has managed to cram a 3,400mAh battery in the OnePlus 3T, yet maintaining the same design measurements. If the only complaint you had about your OnePlus 3 was the phone dying in the middle of the day, the bigger battery is reason enough to go get the OnePlus 3T.
4. Yet, the OnePlus 3T is no flagship killer
As I had argued in an earlier article, the OnePlus 3T is no flagship killer . Since the OnePlus 3 came out, smartphones evolved faster than ever implementing technologies ranging from Moto Mods in the Moto Z, to the bezel-less screen in the Xiaomi Mi Mix, or the dual cameras in the Huawei P9 and the iPhone 7 Plus. And the OnePlus 3T offers none of these. It is more of an incremental upgrade to the older OnePlus 3 with some hardware upgrades under the hood and the only flagship it essentially kills, is the OnePlus 3.
5. The OnePlus 3 is still rules
The OnePlus 3 is still one of the best phones to come out this year . It beats all expectations and sets new benchmarks for others to follow. The OnePlus 3 is a meticulously designed phone, both inside and out. Its minimalist fascia hides one of the best hardware tuning seen in an Android phone making the phone run as smooth as butter, and as a daily companion, what more do you need? Yes, the OnePlus 3T is faster but in real-life scenarios that extra speed really won't matter. So if you have bought a OnePlus 3 recently, there's no reason to swtich. OnePlus has also promised to bring updates to the OnePlus 3 at the same time as the OnePlus 3T starting with Android 7.0 Nougat. The OnePlus 3T is a better, more polished version of the OnePlus 3. Nothing more, nothing less.
